I was also very disgusted by the lack of maturity amongst the players - the antics of a few soured an otherwise excellent production.
As far as the economy being potentially ruined with a few trinkets - isn't the economy idiotic as it stands right now? There are quite a disproportionate amount of rich players in the game (rich as in 500K+ IMO) and a stupid amount of people that are grossly rich players (multi-millionaires) that don't have any problem bidding 25 million on extremely rare stat items - that isn't an indication that something is wrong?
Sure dye prices are fairly stable, runes have settled down a bit (for now) and steel ingots sell about the same price all the time - but that doesn't mean there aren't issues within the game. Greed and stupidity aren't mutually exclusive human traits and are all too common in online RPGs. While I don't think these holloween items will cause problems that doesn't mean they don't have the potential to.

Unluckly, you should have left yourself AFK to get one, you only needed to be near the King.

The most funny ones were people going "Can u just give me the pumpkin head plz?" every minute or two and when everyone died or king lost at rock paper scissors, "Ahaha owned", and when the king says "This is a good party, but theres something missing... What is it...?" And like on cue, 3 people went "SEX!" "WEED!" "BEER!" hahaha i lawled.

Yes, if your opinion is based on false information it is in fact possible to have a wrong opinion. It's called predudice. (suprised?)
You use grades like a maths exam to 'score' this event!
If an examiner fails to reveiw the project in its entirety it is possible to issue a 'wrong grade' if this grade is in fact your 'opinion' then more so your opinion can be wrong. (ask any student)

you contradict yourself, rather than spending hours 'waiting' why didnt you use some of this structured life-style of yours to read forums and do some organising, which you claim your so good at?... you would have saved hours of waiting, not been so annoyed, and 'scored' in a way which reflects the facts.
the rest of your reply goes on about perspective, constructive critisism, sweeping statements and generalisations.. which is exactly what you do when using a grade system, so, again you contradict yourself, using a grade is not an opinion, nor is it constructive critisism, its a way of definitivley scoring something as fact. a fact which you have arrived at incorrectly.
You would wait 2 hours in a queue with no complaint, and yet, you lose patience when waiting in a game.. you certainly are a box of contradictions... this is very alarming as i've just noticed your a moderator of this forum!
The very forum i might add, which provided the information which you obviously failed to read

Last time I checked people do things in the real world like being patient at the MVA because they HAVE to be. People put up with a jackass boss because they HAVE to be. I'm pretty sure most people don't want to have to excerise these same virtues when they're trying to have fun playing a game.

What false information? I didn't see any false information. Everything Mercury said seemed correct to me.

I fail to see how grading school work and "grading" how Anet did on their halloween event are in anyway related.

Who cares, it was some harmless fun and I had a h00t watching hordes of people dying on the simon says task= too good.
If anything, I hope the pumpkin heads will be removed for good soon, which no doubt they will. having 10,000 people all walking around with pumpkin crowns is all good and well, but after halloween has died down, it will just be plain stupid.

I'm pissed, the one day I don't get on Guild Wars I find out they had some pumpkin head thing that I didn't get. I can't believe it. Can't we have a make-up day or something...? I hope we can get one next year... GRR!

I waited 2 days for the king.
I'm a uni student on holidays...sue me.
At first when the decorations were on, I noticed some dude running around shouting the Mad King will arrive and didn't bother about it.
But nearer towards halloween, people started talking about the king, and thats when the buzz started.
Pretty happy with the event, made a few new friends and had fun overall.
Never seen a group of random people so coordinated ever in my life!

A few days or weeks from now nobody's going to care. It was a gift and community event from Anet to the players which was fun but like christmas decorations, who keeps those up all year round? I think a large number of people must have got pumpkin crowns (50+ districts all with lots of people in on the day, several times a day) but a few days on and they're hardly being worn. Another few days and weeks and it will be forgotten about, with only the people who have too much money and nothing to spend it on interested.
p.s. this is in response to the "must sell halloween stuff for 12112k" posts, the event itself was great!

Obliterates half the people's posts here with one fact: You can't sell pumpkin crowns to other people to be worn.

Well pumpkin hats yes, but the other halloween stuff from the soon to be defunct collectors (which the King also gave away if people played right) are sellable.

Most has already been said. I really enjoyed the event, and thanks is due Anet and I think most of us have expressed that. Just a few random thoughts:
The decorations were great. The new items fun. Everything that was done needs to be balanced with Anet's time resources when looked at in balance with development in Chapter 2, so that said, I'm really impressed with what they did. It was fun to come to town and see tons of people and in that regard, it was a community event more than a game event per se.
Speaking for myself, I enjoyed the lead up not really knowing what might happen, relying on friends, guild channel, forums, to finally figure out what was going on. Any one of these avenues should have eventually been enough to keep one informed and I did like this approach over a global sort of site announcment: go here at this time, play the games, win the prize.
Some things I found myself thinking about over the course of it that I would have liked to have seen (not a criticism, its again the time requirements on the development staff that in the end determines what can be done):
A bit more happening environmentally in town during the Mad King lead up - it gets slowly darker, foggier, lightning. Something. A larger pool in what the Mad King did and said, and/or a bit more interactivity with him. Enough so that if you saw him 4 times, it'd be somewhat different each time in terms of things he said and did.
I think I would also liked to have seen one Halloween PvE quest. Some new, fairly long quest, with a bit of humor maybe - something anyway that made it more than just a fetch quest. For anyone who played a fair amount of PSO, you know what I mean. PSO was really good at fun holiday quest events. Possibly at the end of the quest you get a widget that would in the future someday be useful, or something to bring to the next Mad King visit. I dont know. Just thinking it might have been nice to have some Mad King quest you could do in between the Mad King visits.
That said, Mad King Says! was worth the price of admission.

Come one guys!
Myself I was stuck working from 7:30am to friggin Flaggin 6:00! By the time I get home it's 8:00 already!
Shower, Eat, clean then play it's 9:00.
The only reason I knew about the mad king is I read these forums during my lunch brake at work but not all of us have this oppertunity.
Some of us probably had to go to school, then work until 9:00 and didn't have the time to get online at 12:00am because they go to school then work the next day again!
Oh didn't I mention that by that time they do play
They don't have a clue about what the Mad king is or anything they weren't there the whole day and they might have been off a few days and not up to date.
There are always outside influences that you have to consider before you insult someone.

I think the ghost in the box's ability to trigger soul reaping is attributed to the fact that the model for the ghost is an acutal creature you can find in the game. It's death animation probably is the cause of the trigger.
I hope they don't change it I'm using them for my Necromancer in PvP

I hadn't played GW much in the past week or two because 1) I kinda ran out of things to do in the game/got bored, and 2) RL got in the way.
Sounds like it was a fun event.. just wish I could've been there. Now I realize the pumpkin heads are merely little trinkets that have no real effect, but still..... I didn't get a pumpkin because I had classes all day Monday, and when I finally got home I had a 10 page exam paper to write.... ironically after submitting it Tuesday, I got on GW and proceded to sit in LA for 9 hours!!! All the while that Bruce the Herald was riding around shouting "The Mad King is coming!!".... It would have been nice for there to be some announcement of the times and when it started/stopped.
Regardless, I applaud Anet's efforts!!
